Germany, Freden: lacquer peel of fluvial sediments

Lacquer peel of Pleistocene fluvial sediments in the Leine river at Freden, Germany. About 1m across. From the wall in the Shell Rijswijk laboratory until removed by a new director around 1990 (an IT manager).

Notes: below, see images of strain at slip transfer zones between faults (1), and unfaulting with vertical shear (2),  the lateral movement is then handled by opening the fault planes according to the amount of lateral slip.
